Emily Lane (Em) is a multidisciplinary self-taught artist working and living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Em’s work is heavily influenced by her experiences maintaining, tearing down, and building a new sense of self while moving through illness, healing, and personal growth. She began creating digitally at the height of a long period of isolation due to chronic illness, when digital art made continuing to find a way to practice and grow her creative process and artistic expression accessible. While digital art remains a large part of her artistic practice, Em has shifted to working primarily with watercolors. Her imagery depicts internal struggle, vulnerability, and grief, juxtaposed with moments of liberation, self-acceptance, and celebration. Ultimately, her developing body of work seeks to empower individuals to celebrate their true selves, to break free from the horrors of compulsory heterosexuality, and to find solace and joy in the journey towards living in authenticity.
